Start of the project to update the national hypertensive guideline

Today, the volume of scientific information is increasing so rapidly that more than 80 clinical and systematic trials are published daily in the world. Managing the growing volume of information and using it to make the best clinical decisions requires keeping existing resources up to date, especially clinical guidelines. Therefore, due to the fact that more than 7 years have passed since the last update of the national high blood pressure guideline and considering the order of the Office of Health Technology Assessment, Standardization and Tariff of Health Services in this field, it was decided that the guidelines of the prevention, diagnosis, management, and treatment of hypertension in Iran has been updated and thus important information sources in accordance with the latest scientific documents accepted by the international community in the field of prevention, diagnosis and hypertension treatment are provided to the target groups. In this regard, after preparing and approving the relevant proposal by the Guidelines Development and Update Group and Blood Pressure Research Center, members of the project working groups were selected and on Saturday, June 20, 2021, the first meeting of the Hypertension Guidelines Update Group at the Heart Research Institute and Isfahan Vascular and Iranian Cardiovascular Research Network were established. The members of this group consist of specialists and experts from different universities, scientific associations, and the respective ministry.
It is worth noting that the first version of the National Hypertension Guideline with the cooperation of a group of experts from universities and related organizations along with foreign experts from other countries was compiled in 2011 and updated in 2014. It aims to provide an evidence-based approach to the prevention, treatment, and control of hypertension based on the most well-known and available international solutions, regional research results with considering the social situation and health needs of the country. It should be noted that to date, fourteen sessions have been held to prepare the hypertension guideline.
